The Timberwood Grill

Before I start let me just reiterate that I am not a member of staff, or affiliated in any way with The Timberwood Grill on any kind of professional basis. I am simply a local patron who happens to be a Brit and I have hunted high and low for a place to call my local. This is it.
The Timberwood Grill in is, in my opinion, the best place in Charlottesville to watch the World Cup games this Summer.
Not only do they have a fantastic selection of beers and specialty ales, an eclectic menu and half a dozen huge screen TV’s, but there is also an amazing array of staff and customers that I have come to call my friends. The atmosphere is superb and you can be sure of a great time.
The bar area is perfect for watching footy and there is a nice outdoor patio area for the half time break !
About The Timberwood Grill
If we could choose one word that describes the Timberwood Grill philosophy (and we can do that… it’s ours after all), it would be family. Sure, we have kid’s menus and crayons and the yellow pages might list us as “family friendly,” but it goes further than that. And no, we’re not talking about the Sopranos here, nor are we going to “make you an offer you can’t refuse.” Our philosophy is simply this: the moment you walk in the front door, you become more than a vendor, or employee, or customer. You join the Timberwood family, and our goal is to treat you as such from that point forward.
Take a look at our food. We hand cut all of our filet mignons and New York strips in house. We believe they truly taste better than the vacuum packed pre-cut steaks a lot of restaurants use today to cut costs. In four years, guess how many frozen bags of soup we’ve opened? A grand total of zero, as we make all of our soups from scratch. Every day, we patty our burgers by hand and cut lettuce for salads instead of using frozen patties and pre-mixed industrial sized bags of salad mix. All this is what we’d do at home, so why would it make any sense to do it differently for our Timberwood family? And that sauce, side, or soup you love? Just ask, and we’ll give you the recipe, so you can share it with your family and friends.
How about our beer? We just added 8 taps because we didn’t think 16 was enough. There’s too much good beer out there, and we just had to spread the word. Don’t know anything about beer? Come on in and ask a bartender. They’ll set you up with a sampler and talk your ear off about it. It’s something we love, and we want to share it with you.
Then there’s our building. We love eating outside, so we put together what we think is the nicest patio in town (Charlottesville Daily Progress readers think so too – we’ve won Best Outdoor Dining two years in a row). We just put on an addition that can handle private parties of up to 60 people, so you can bring your family in for all kinds of milestones – baby & wedding showers, birthday parties, rehearsal dinners, going away parties, you name it. Just as you would open your home to your family for these important life events, we built a room so that we can open ours to you.
Most importantly, talk to our people. More than half of our employees have been with us for over a year, which is pretty rare for a restaurant. We believe in giving you the best possible service, so we give our servers slightly smaller sections than a lot of other restaurants. Could some of them make more money elsewhere? Maybe, but time and time again, we hear the reason they stay is they feel like they’re part of a family. Coming to the restaurant is more like coming home than coming to work. Stop in, get to know us – we’ll make you feel the same way.
All this adds up to what we believe to be the best casual dining experience in Charlottesville. But that’s not for us to decide – it’s your call. Let us know what you think, because we’re always listening. So what’s next? We promise to keep moving forward, learning lessons from our mistakes, not being satisfied with anything less than perfection, and always remembering the people who make it all possible. Hey, it’s what families do.

Well then I might have to show up to do just that, then. Soccer, soccer, soccer, soccer…
lol

LETS GO USA!!!!
Timberwood is out near the airport. For in-town folks, I’d recommend Shebeen–they’ve plastered the place with TVs for the World Cup, and they’re opening early for all games…
(I don’t work for them..)
I really like Shebeen but I was told by many people that the England USA game atmosphere was dire compared to Timberwood’s – We actually had quite a few people move from there at half time. Location wasn’t really an issue – there were people who drove up from Richmond due to the word of mouth from the Brit contingent. It was all about getting the English fans together in one place – and naturally a lot of die hard US fans wanted to be there as they knew that was our “bag” so to speak
Thanks for the post thought – if you are in-town and don’t want to move around then I would certainly recommend Shebeen.
COME ON ENGLAND!!!
